Until The Call

Until the Call

I can’t promise to never leave you.
I can’t promise it, no matter what my heart wants to say,
because there are lands that I will have to explore on my own:
lands that we grow to in time.

There’s a land like that for us all
and we aren’t strong enough to ignore its call.
I will go there one day, one sad day when the time comes
and I will go alone.
I don’t want to. I don’t want to leave you.
But I will.

So, you should know
that until then I am yours and yours alone,
that because of you my heart has grown,
grown to its proper size, where it’s big enough to rebel against goodbyes
and tries not to think of a life without you
because it wouldn’t have any point.
And you should know that until I go I will love you
because it is the only thing that makes sense.

I don’t want to leave,
but I do believe that my life is what it should be,
because of you.
And when I go
that will still be so.

Such a beautiful poem, as always, my GFW. Painful, yet sweet.
(Just on a side note, you may want to change that ‘think’ at the end of the middle stanza to ‘thing’. Darn those blasted typos and their succession in being the bane of the creative mind’s existence.)
