Roses are red…

Yes, it’s that time of year again – Valentine’s Day. I’ve spoken here before about how I think the day should not devolve into couples doing coupley things and single people celebrating/commiserating with their ironic “Singles Awareness Day” (the acronym – SAD), but rather that it should be a celebration – if we celebrate it at all – of love as a concept, a feeling, and an intrinsic part of the human condition. Anyway, as I’ve said all that before, I won’t bang on about it again, but feel free to have a read of my thoughts on that if you’d like. In the meantime, here are some poems for the day in the time honoured fashion.

For Tea Lovers

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Sugar is sweet
One lump or two?

Don’t Leave Me…Please?!

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
I have a pathological fear of being alone
And you’ll have to do.

The Bitter End

Roses aren’t red,
Violets aren’t blue,
The flowers have died
And I hope so have you.

Faux-pas?

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
I slept with your brother
But I still love you.

Those Left Behind

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
I’m crying alone
Thinking of you.

The Mixer

Campari is red,
Curaçao is blue,
I’m having a cocktail
Can I buy you one too?

Spirit of ’97

Roses look red,
Violets look blue,
The spoon isn’t there
I know kung fu.

Thanks for sticking with this post

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
If you’ve read this far
Then I love you.
