Thursday & Other Poems

Thursday

thursday night
like any other night in winter
I’m drinking a solitary drink
and pretending to read a book

I’m watching you instead
the way you walk and the
wave of your hair as you pull it
time and time again over your
      left shoulder, your neck
         exposed
a story of desire

thursday night
like any other night in winter
drinking a solitary drink

The Way

It’s the way you look at me
   like I only just arrived
back from a trip to the moon

It’s the way you smile at me
   like we’ve been friends forever
and I just moved back to town

It’s the way you look to me
   like the word ‘perfect’ was
   invented just for you

It’s the way I smile at you
   like a mirror held
   up to the stars
