Underachieving & Other Poems

Underachieving

seeing you achieves nothing
you are a fight I cannot win
and not my something new
but I still want to see you

seeing you achieves nothing
I am an idea you entertain
and a notion unexplored
I stop you being bored

seeing you achieves nothing
you are a shadow of something serious
and a ghost of something true
but I still want only you

The Chase

I was running
beneath a winter moon
chasing you
when stopping
to catch a breath
I thought
my feet are tired
my legs are sore
I cannot chase you anymore

I have bounded
over hills of years
chasing you
and others
too much
I’m exhausted
so long
I’ve pursued
and longer raced
I think now I’d like to be chased

Tigers’ Prayer

Lord, protect my family
At the Welford Road –
Let not Saints nor Sarries
Hurt us when they goad.
Give us strength in driving
And keep us from the bin.
And, Lord, if it’s not too much trouble
Let the Tigers win.
