Without The Fire

On the road again with no light to see the way,
Don’t know which way to walk if I’m to find that brighter day.
All my dreams have turned to smoke without the fire
And my inspiration disappeared with the one I most admire.
I’m sitting by the road as others hurry past,
I’m chewing over memories and wondering why it couldn’t last.
While the rain is falling, there’s no star to be my guide,
But the winter wind is nothing to the cold I hold inside.
I should pick myself up, dust off my heart and go,
Somewhere new with someone new; you reap only what you sow.
But it doesn’t matter where I go or what I choose to do,
There’ll never be another muse who’s half as good as you.
